Summary of Innovation

Barcoding’s Get Smart is a new mobile application designed to capture and report user and device usage information. Get Smart offers real-time insight into when activities are performed throughout the day, on which devices and by whom. Zebra is the first mobile computing manufacturer to support this application.

Filling a void in the mobile computing market, Get Smart offers a solution to further maximize the use of mobile devices in multiple industries. The application allows managers to view user and device analytics, providing opportunities to efficiently match employee time and tasking with asset availability. Additionally, it adds a layer of user accountability for damaged or misplaced assets, helping to identify users who may require additional device training. It also includes a Find Me feature to locate misplaced devices.

From retailers to warehouse distribution centers to hospitals and health systems, Get Smart’s value is in the ability for enterprises to match asset purchases to their employee scheduling needs, while reducing ongoing support and asset replacement costs.

Innovation Statement

Today’s enterprise users of mobile computers have no information on when or who is using their mobile computing assets. As a result, they lack the visibility to exactly how many devices they require throughout the day and when they need them. Additionally, they lack user accountability which results in excessive device damage and misplaced (lost or stolen) assets. Get Smart solves these two issues by allowing managers to view user and device analytics, which provides opportunities to match human capital with asset availability while at the same time identifying users that require additional device training.

As the mobile computing market matures, enterprise organizations are investing in better tools to manage and support these assets. The rise of mobile device management (MDM) tools is one example of this shift. Get Smart is a natural extension of this trend as customers seek to improve their asset and employee utilization while reducing capital expenditures.
