What You Will Learn

Multi-kilowatt hour Lithium batteries are powering more and more vehicle models offered by all the major automobile manufacturers. Its time is now for these advanced batteries to enter the forklift market. While lithium batteries have recently been introduced into Class 3 pallet jacks, the more daunting technical challenge is to design lithium batteries for the rigors of Class 1 and 2 forklifts. This seminar will explore what are the trade-offs in considering a higher first-cost lithium battery against the traditional costs incurred in the longstanding use of lead acid batteries. Seminar participants will come to understand where lithium batteries best make sense in terms of number of shifts, size of forklift fleet, and other important considerations.

Key Takeaways

*Where it best makes sense to implement lithium in replacement of lead acid batteries
*What the advantages and disadvantages of lithium and lead acid batteries are
*Example deployments of lithium batteries in Class 1 & 2 forklifts
*Results of a project funded by NYSERDA to test lithium batteries in a multi-shift cold storage application
* What the ROI model looks like
*What are the additional sustainability/green benefits
