What You Will Learn

This seminar will show the application of Lean Six Sigma tools in the battery room. Once applied, the results are transformational and will result in a significant elimination of waste ($). It will review the six types of waste commonly found in the battery room. It will show how a change to a “just-in-time” maintenance plan can eliminate waste. Any process improvement change must consider and plan for the impact of the current culture and change readiness to assure sustainability of the improvements. A case study will document how the full application of all the lean tools with an implemented Management Control System can turn a battery room that is running out of batteries into a functional operation that requires fewer batteries, whose batteries have longer run times and requires less overall maintenance and costs. The cost savings can be significant with ROI generally less than one year.

Key Takeaways

• The importance of data collection to a Management Control System’s Key Performance Indicators.

• The challenges, opportunities, and savings in moving from a firefighting maintenance mode to a metrics-based, action-driving management system.
